Welcome to Ballantyne

Ballantyne is the area South of Charlotte outside of the I-485 loop between Rea Road to the east and Pineville to the west.

Ballantyne was originally a large hunting tract owned by the Harris family, In 1992, Johnny Harris and his brother-in-law, Smoky Bissell, started Ballantyne Corporate Park. This is a 535-acre business park with over 4,000,000 square feet of Class A office space. This which has become one of the most successful master-planned communities in the United States. Bissell also developed and designed the Ballantyne Hotel, which opened in September 2001.

At the southwest corner of Ballantyne Commons and Johnston Road stands a thirty-foot monument to Charlotte and its history in transportation. Monuments on the other three corners (the first thing most people notice when they enter Ballantyne proper) represent technology, finance, and the human spirit of Charlotte.

Ballantyne is gearing up for another transformation. In 2017, Northwood Investors acquired the majority of the 535-acre Ballantyne Corporate Park. The vision is to create a more urban, walkable environment in the heart of Ballantyne.

This will include a six-acre park, a vibrant amphitheater, world-class shopping, and a family-friendly entertainment and culinary exploration district.

Ballantyne is evolving as a destination while continuing to be an economic driver for the entire region.
