The neighborhood was Charlotte's first streetcar suburb and was established by Edward Dilworth Latta in 1891. The arrival of the Atherton Cotton Mill just south of Dilworth in 1892 stimulated the industrial district around the neighborhood, and both prospered. 
 
Dilworth rests on 250 acres (just southwest of the original Charlotte city limits. It included the Joseph Forsyth Johnson designed Latta Park. The unpaved streets were arranged in a grid pattern similar to the city's original four wards, Dilworth was initially designated the Eighth Ward with the East and South Boulevards being the major arteries.
 
The streets of Dilworth feature stately, mature oak trees, sidewalks, and houses with front porches. Take a drive or stroll down Dilworth Road East and West, and you’ll see Dilworth has distinct style with it’s Bugalows, large 2 story colonials, and the occasional Queen Anne resting on many of the lots throughout the neighborhood. Much of the neighborhood is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as the Dilworth Historic District.
 
East Boulevard serves as the main thoroughfare through the neighborhood. East Boulevard is offers perfect access to the many restaurants, offices and shops located in renovated homes that line the street. Tucked between Scott Ave and Morehead St Dilworth is also home to Charlotte's largest hospital, Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center.
 
Dilworth has so many great options for everyone. Walk, bike, or drive throughout Dilworth and you can find yourself enjoy playing or relaxing in Latta Park. Dilworth hosts many fun and traditional events highlighted by the Yiasou Greek Festival at Holy Trinity Church off East Boulevard happens each year the first week in September. The Festival in the Park is held in Freedom Park each September as well, both popular events that draw visitors from around the world to the community.
