We made the move.
You don't have to
make yours alone.
Steve Lonnen moved his business to Real Broker in 2024 — and he'd make the same decision again. SL Home Group is the team he built there.
Real and RE/MAX are now one company.
Real completed its acquisition of RE/MAX Holdings on 24 August 2026 — an $880 million transaction first announced that April. The combined company operates as Real REMAX Group and trades under the ticker REAX.
RE/MAX and Motto Mortgage continue to operate under their own brands. Agents and franchisees keep their existing business model and brand identity, and gain access to reZEN, Real's technology platform. For agents on either side, day-to-day operations did not change.
If you're a RE/MAX agent, the brokerage question has already been answered for you. The one that's left is what structure you want to work inside — on your own, or with a team.
Written for one
particular person.
- You're licensed and producing, and you've been at your brokerage long enough to know exactly what you like about it and what you don't.
- You've had a Real conversation before and found it more pitch than information.
- You'd rather move somewhere with people already in it than land at a cloud brokerage on your own.
- Or you're already a RE/MAX agent, working without a team, and wondering what the combination changes for you day to day.
- Newly licensed or looking for your first brokerage? This isn't the right starting point — but reach out anyway and Steve will point you somewhere useful.
Why I moved, and
what I got wrong.
I didn't leave because I was unhappy. That's the first thing people assume, and it wasn't it.
I'd been doing this a long time when I moved to Real in 2024, and I had a business that worked. What I kept running into was that I was paying for a level of overhead I'd stopped using, and every year the split conversation got a little harder to justify to myself.
What surprised me was how administrative the move turned out to be. The part I'd been putting off for months came down to paperwork and a timeline — not the cliff I'd built it up to be.
When you leave a big brokerage, you also leave the building.
What was harder than I expected was the quiet. The hallway conversations, the person two doors down who's already done the thing you're stuck on — I had to rebuild that on purpose, and it took longer than the license transfer did.
That's the reason SL Home Group exists. I'm not going to tell you Real is right for everyone, because it isn't. But if it is right for you, I'd rather you land somewhere with people in it.
A brokerage and a team.
They're not the same thing.
Real Broker, LLC
You hang your license with Real and get its commission structure, technology and agent programs.
Every agent names a sponsoring agent when they join — a required field, and your choice. Naming Steve costs you nothing: Real pays sponsorship out of Real's own portion of your split.
It doesn't come out of your commission and it doesn't change your split.
SL Home Group
Steve's team inside Real. Real's ProTeam framework sets the rules and they're public: team members pay a minimum of 10% per transaction to the team leader, and choose a Real cap of $6,000 or $12,000.
The $12,000 cap keeps you eligible for Elite Agent status; the $6,000 cap qualifies you for Individual Agent Production Awards. Both stay revenue-share eligible, and the team split continues after you cap.
SL Home Group's own arrangement sits inside that framework, and Steve will walk you through his exactly on the call.
You can join Real without joining the team. If that's the better fit for your business, Steve will say so on the call.

What happens
if you reach out.
- You pick a time. Twenty minutes, phone or video. Steve is the only person who sees the message — not a team inbox, not a call centre.
- You ask, he answers. Bring your production numbers if you want the math run properly. He'll tell you where Real doesn't fit as readily as where it does.
- You decide, on your timeline. If it's a no, that's a complete answer and there's no follow-up sequence. If it's a maybe, he checks back once — whenever you tell him to.
The questions agents
actually ask.
Is this a recruiting pitch?
No. It's a conversation about whether a move makes sense for your business, and it frequently ends in "not right now" or "not for you." Steve gets more out of being the person you call in two years than out of pushing you today.
Real acquired RE/MAX. What does that actually mean?
Real acquired RE/MAX Holdings in an $880 million transaction announced in April 2026. The combined company has more than 180,000 agents across 120+ countries and roughly 8,500 franchisees.
RE/MAX and Motto Mortgage keep operating under their own brands. Per the companies' own announcement, agents and franchisees maintain their existing business model and brand identity while gaining access to reZEN. Anything beyond that is speculation — confirm specifics with your own broker.
I'm a RE/MAX agent. Does any of this apply to me?
Possibly, but not in the way you might expect. You're not being asked to switch companies — after the acquisition you're already inside the same one. Nothing on this page is a suggestion to leave your office, break an agreement, or change your brand.
The question that's still open is structural: whether you want to keep operating on your own or work inside a team. If that's worth twenty minutes, Steve is happy to talk it through — and he'll tell you if staying exactly as you are is the better answer.
Do I have to join the team to join Real?
No. They're two separate decisions. You can name Steve as your sponsor and never join SL Home Group, and it changes nothing about your split. The team is what this page is inviting you to, but it isn't a condition of anything.
What does the team cost me?
Real's ProTeam framework sets the floor, and it's public: a team member pays a minimum of 10% per transaction to the team leader, set out in a Team Addendum filed with Real. That split continues even after you cap with Real.
You also choose your Real cap — $6,000 or $12,000. The $12,000 cap keeps you eligible for Elite Agent status; the $6,000 cap qualifies you for Individual Agent Production Awards. Both remain revenue-share eligible. Steve will walk you through SL Home Group's own arrangement on the call.
What are the requirements to be on a ProTeam?
Real requires at least two licensed agents and a minimum of $5 million in closed sales volume across the prior twelve months, plus a fully executed team addendum on file. Real also offers simpler structures — a Domestic Team (maximum two members sharing a $12,000 cap) and a Marketing Group (shared marketing name, no minimum split).
How does revenue share actually work?
If an agent names you as their sponsor, Real pays you a percentage of Real's own revenue split on that agent's closed transactions — 5% at the first tier down to 1% at the fifth, capped per sponsored agent per year between $4,000 and $800. You need producing-agent status ($450 in splits or fees every six months) to collect it. It isn't a fee you pay, and it doesn't reduce anyone's split.
Is revenue share a pyramid scheme?
Fair question, and worth asking directly. It pays only on real closed transactions, out of Real's own revenue rather than out of any agent's commission. There's nothing to buy in to, and no one earns anything from an agent who doesn't close business.
What's the stock component?
Real trades on Nasdaq as REAX. You can direct 5% of your commission (10% after capping) into the stock purchase plan and receive a 10% bonus in shares (15% after capping), vesting after a year. Capping earns 50–150 restricted stock units on a three-year vest. Share value can fall as well as rise.
What happens to my pending transactions and listings?
Anything already under contract is governed by your current brokerage agreement, so the honest answer is that it depends on what you signed. It's one of the first things Steve will go through with you — he did exactly this in 2024.
I run my own team — does this work differently?
Team leaders cap at $12,000 and must maintain at least a 10% team split on each deal. Real's ProTeams model lets splits, caps and fees be configured per agent, so the arithmetic changes with your structure. Worth a longer conversation than this page can hold.
Will my broker find out I looked?
Not from us. The form below goes to Steve's inbox directly. It isn't shared with Real Broker, it isn't added to a marketing list, and nobody contacts your brokerage.
